Ahead of the budget session, which is anticipated to start in the last week of January, the finance ministry has asked several ministries and departments for expenditure ideas for the second and last batch of supplemental demands for grants. This would be the 17th Lok Sabha’s final session before the general elections, and the administration would ask Parliament for approval of spending for a four-month period ending in July 2024 through a vote on the budget.
Ahead of the budget session, which is anticipated to start in the last week of January, the finance ministry has asked several ministries and departments for expenditure ideas for the second and last batch of supplemental demands for grants.
This would be the 17th Lok Sabha’s final session before the general elections, and through a vote on account, the administration would ask Parliament for approval of spending for a four-month period ending in July 2024.
According to an office note from the finance ministry, the second round of supplemental demands for grants for 2023–24 is planned to be brought before Parliament during the next budget session. Cases where advances from the contingency fund have been made are among those that would be qualified to be included under such demands.
Furthermore, it stated that payments made in defiance of a court order and situations in which the finance ministry expressly recommended deferring the supplemental demand until the winter session would be covered organisations.
