Ashok Leyland’s subsidiary, OHM Global Mobility, secured an order for 500 12-metre ultra-low floor electric buses from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), Chennai.
OHM focuses on electric mobility and mobility-as-a-service business. Another subsidiary, Switch Mobility, will supply the EiV12 model buses to OHM, which will operate and maintain the fleet for 12 years as per the MTC contract.
The order includes 400 non-AC buses, and 100 air-conditioned buses, each designed to seat 37 passengers with additional standing space for 24.
These electric buses have a range of over 200 km per charge, making them ideal for long city routes in Chennai, with an ultra-low floor for passenger comfort and efficiency.
Ashok Leyland’s MD and CEO, Shenu Agarwal, highlighted that the Switch EiV12 buses integrate advanced technology, reliability, and comfort, emphasizing their commitment to transitioning to electric mobility.
Currently, Switch Mobility operates 950 vehicles, and with this new order, the company’s order book now includes over 2,000 vehicles. This order reflects Ashok Leyland’s ongoing effort to promote cleaner, more efficient transportation systems in urban areas.
