GAIL (India) Ltd has commissioned its first green hydrogen plant at Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant step into new and alternate energy. The plant was inaugurated by Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
Key attendees included GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Sandeep Gupta, Director (Projects) Deepak Gupta, Director (Human Resources) Ayush Gupta, and other senior officials.
The green hydrogen plant has a capacity of producing 4.3 tons per day (TPD) using 10MW PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) Electrolyzer units. Hydrogen is produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable power, achieving a purity of 99.999% and a pressure of 30 Kg/cm².
Initially, the produced hydrogen will be used as fuel along with natural gas for captive purposes in various processes and equipment at the Vijaipur plant.
Future plans include dispensing hydrogen to retail customers in nearby areas, transported through high-pressure cascades.
GAIL is sourcing renewable power through open access and is also setting up around 20 MW of solar power plants at Vijaipur (both ground-mounted and floating) to meet the green power requirements for the 10 MW PEM Electrolyzer.
