Indian stock markets showed positive momentum on Monday, buoyed by strong Q4 results from some companies and positive global cues.
By afternoon, the Sensex was up by 704.03 points or 0.95% to reach 74,434 level. Nifty climbed by 162.30 points or 0.72% to reach 22,582 level. Among the stocks traded, 1840 advanced, 1453 declined, and 139 remained unchanged. In the broader market, the BSE MidCap index increased by 0.66%, and the BSE SmallCap index falls by 0.38%.
Among the Nifty 50 stocks, 19 were in the negative territory. Top losers included Apollo Hospitals Enterprises, HCLTech, HDFC Life, Bajaj Auto, and Adani Ports & SEZ. Meanwhile, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, BPCL, Axis Bank, and Tech Mahindra emerged as the top gainers.
On the 30-stock BSE Sensex, only four stocks, namely HCLTech, ITC, Wipro, and Bajaj Finserv, recorded losses, while ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, and Axis Bank were among the top gainers.
According to provisional data from the NSE, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹3,408.88 Crore, whereas domestic institutional investors (DIIs) invested ₹4,356.83 Crore on April 26.
