Venture capital investments in blockchain startups down by 22% in June quarter

Coinbase Ventures’ deal speed slowed down in the second quarter, with the overall number of deals falling by 34%, from 71 to 47, in the cryptocurrency venture investment market, which saw a record Q1 in 2022. The venture capital branch of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is called Coinbase Ventures.

The Block’s research shows that venture capital in the blockchain industry fell 22%, from $12.5 billion to $9.8 billion. Investment had risen for seven straight quarters before this decline.

According to a quarterly investment report from Coinbase Ventures, Q2 activity climbed 68% YoY despite a drop from the intense pace of late CY21 and Q122, demonstrating overall expansion in the venture business.

The decrease in venture investment activity was ascribed to market instability, which caused many entrepreneurs to reevaluate or postpone their rounds, particularly at later stages. According to the investment division of Coinbase, “we’re finding that many firms are bypassing fundraising unless absolutely essential, and even then, only if they feel sure that they can exhibit the growth needed to justify a fresh round.”
