Jindal Stainless Ltd has collaborated with CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd (CJ Darcl) to create lightweight, sustainable stainless steel containers.
As part of the partnership, the steel producer provided 2.2 metric tonnes of JT stainless steel for each container, which replaced typical carbon steel in the sidewalls, end walls, and roofs.
These containers are built from high-strength JT grade stainless steel, also known as N7 under BIS 6991 requirements.
The containers are intended to transport a wide range of commodities, including polymers, batteries, and rubber.
Furthermore, the underframes are composed of bespoke stainless steel tubes. This move lowered container weight by about 500 kilogrammes, resulting in enhanced cargo capacity, higher fuel efficiency, and cheaper operational expenses.
The use of JT grade stainless steel not only decreases container weight, increasing fuel efficiency, but also provides a longer lifespan with less maintenance. This results in a more sustainable solution with a lower carbon footprint, according to Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless.
Stainless steel is an inert metal, thus it does not react with the items being transported, preventing contamination.
Jindal Stainless also provided comprehensive technical support throughout the project, collaborating in the design phase, performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Factor of Safety (FOS) analyses, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and training the fabrication team at approved vendor of CJ Darcl, Kamal Coach Works in Jaipur.
