Maruti Suzuki India intends to install around 25,000 EV charging sites ahead of the debut of its first electric car, a midsize SUV known as Concept eVX, in January 2025, according to news reports.
In addition to tapping into its 5,100-plus service centres in 2,300 cities, the country’s leading carmaker is in talks with oil marketing companies (OMCs) and energy companies to create a charging ecosystem, which has been one of the biggest impediments to faster adoption of electric mobility in the country, according to reports.
“They (Maruti) have started surveying their dealer workshops for charging points,” a source told ET. “It intends to have at least one dedicated bay and two charging outlets at its service centres. “The company has already begun training service mechanics in Bengaluru.”
Some OMC insiders verified that the automaker had contacted them to reserve space for EV charging and repair stations in their retail locations.
