Wipro teams with Intel Foundry to accelerate chip design for next-gen technologies

21 Feb 2024 , 12:04 PM

In an effort to spur innovation in chip design, Wipro Limited and Intel Foundry announced an expanded partnership on Wednesday. Wipro will collaborate with Intel Foundry as a major Design Services Alliance Partner to hasten the development of Intel’s most cutting-edge process nodes, such as the Intel18A process node.

From 2023 to 2032, the global market for AI chips is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 38%. The goal of Wipro and Intel Foundry’s partnership is to meet the growing demand for the production of AI chips. Combining Wipro’s experience in design services with Intel Foundry’s production capabilities would allow clients—particularly those in heavy industries like the automotive, industrial, and telecommunications sectors—to take use of foundry services and Gen AI-driven designs to spur continuous innovation.

Atul Kapur, Vice President & Business Head – HiTech, Wipro Limited, stated: ‘We are taking a big step toward joining the semiconductor sector with our new partnership with Intel Foundry. In addition to supporting chip supply and chip production, this gives Wipro options. We will work with Intel to provide our clients with silicon devices that feature validated industry-standard processes and Intel Foundry process technologies. In order to assist our clients in reducing their time to market, we will be focusing on new startup markets, particularly in the Gen AI sector.

Wipro Engineering Edge’s global head, Harmeet Chauhan, continued, ‘We are excited to work with Intel Foundry as the primary Design Services Alliance Partner. Wipro is prepared to take customer designs and use Intel18A technology right now. Our clients will gain a great deal from our cooperation on AI and its successful application to design flows. Wipro will make use of Intel’s robust global fabrication network to guarantee silicon availability by providing a resilient and geo-diverse semiconductor supply chain that helps customers in various industries and regions to solve their silicon scarcity issues.

Speaking at Intel Foundry Direct Connect, Rahul Goyal, vice president and general manager of product and design ecosystem enablement, stated, ‘We are thrilled to have Wipro join us and demonstrate their readiness for our platforms. Wipro possesses an extensive record of providing value in several industries, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them for the advantage of our shared worldwide clientele.

Together with this partnership with Intel on AI-driven chip production, Wipro’s $1 Billion investment in the ai360 ecosystem will support businesses in reaching their expansion objectives. Wipro’s IP experience in areas like DDR, HBM, PCIe, CXL, OPIO, RLINK/DP PHY, FIVR/LDO, and OPIO, along with Intel Foundry’s user-friendly adoption process, will improve time-to-market and yield major benefits for clients in design verification and physical design.
