HSBC files draft for I.D.E.A equity fund

HSBC Asset Management (India) on 19 May 2022 filed an offer document with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for HSBC I.D.E.A Equity Fund. It is an open ended thematic equity fund following Innovation, Disruption, Adaptors and Enablers themes.

The fund aims to provide long term capital appreciation by investing in equity and equity related securities of companies in the space of innovation, disruption, adaption to new business models and becoming enablers to facilitate growth & productivity in businesses.

It may also invest in foreign securities including overseas funds/ETFs which may benefit from the I.D.E.A theme worldwide.

Innovators: The potential investee companies will include companies that are assessed to be innovators by virtue of their existing product or service and companies with innovation orientation, whose potential product or service can bring in innovation advantage.

Disruptors: The potential investee companies will include companies, who are assessed to be disruptors by virtue of their existing product or service and companies whose product or service is assessed to disrupt or rewrite models in future.

Enablers: This will include companies that are already offering the product or service and whose product or service is expected to continue to enable businesses in future.

Adaptors: Instead of getting disrupted they have a credible strategy to mitigate the adverse impact and grow. These entities are charting a migration from old economy to new age with minimal disruption or cannibalization to their existing revenues.

According to the scheme information document, the minimum application amount will be Rs 1,000 and in multiples of Re 1 thereafter. The scheme’s riskometer states that the scheme will fall in the ‘very high risk’ category.

Ranjithgopal K. A (for domestic equities), B. Aswin Kumar (for overseas investments) and Kapil Punjabi (for fixed income) are the fund managers of the scheme.
