The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has announced that this month, engineers and workers in the power sector will demonstrate against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022.
By giving customers the choice to select from a variety of service providers in a given area, the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 aims to foster competition in the power distribution sector.
On August 8, 2022, it was introduced in the Lok Sabha and referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy for review.
In the upcoming winter session of Parliament, the bill is anticipated to be pushed for discussion and passage.
A statement from the All India Power Engineers Federation stated that on November 23 in Delhi, “thousands of Power Employees and Engineers from different states all over the country will organize a big rally.”
For the past four months, the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE) has been organizing state-level conventions all over the nation in preparation for the Delhi event.
Power Employees oppose the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 and also call for the reinstatement of the previous pension plan and the regularisation of all outsourced workers.
