Deloitte unveiled The Maverick programme to B-Schools

Deloitte extends its commitment to investing in talent and growing them as leaders and trusted business advisors to management students

Deloitte, one of the leading professional services organisation, has unveiled the third season of The Maverick programme in 54 leading business schools in India. The organization’s signature industry-academia connect programme is focused on inspiring unconventional thinking, a solutions mindset, leadership behaviors, and client service competencies among the future workforce in an endeavor to prepare them for the challenges of a rapidly evolving business world.

An employer of choice for management graduates in India and Asia Pacific, Deloitte has recorded a meteoric rise in The Universum’s rankings of Top 100 Ideal Employers at business schools in India, from 44 in 2011 to 21 in 2013, and all the way up to 5 in 2014; and ranked 2 among “APAC’s Most Attractive Employers 2014” by The Universum, up by three places from 5 in 2013. Additionally, Deloitte has also been ranked 3 among “India’s Top Recruiters” at the 21 top B-schools in India — by The Economic Times, for the second consecutive year.

The key components of the programme include: (a) working in teams, (b) combining industry insight, innovative thinking and diverse perspectives to design unconventional and sustainable solutions to current day business challenges, and (c) proposing and defending their solutions in a simulated corporate, client service environment. Started in 2012, the programme is held in leading business schools across the country in a multi-stage elimination format. Participants are challenged to experience the life of a consultant in a global professional services organization as well as demonstrate new age competencies that define success in the corporate world, thereby helping them become career ready and life ready.

In season three, The Maverick programme was held in 54 business schools. Over 4,100 teams registered for the first challenge and after stringent evaluations, 57 top teams have qualified for the regional qualifiers. This round involves presenting and defending their solutions in a real, corporate board room setting to senior Deloitte leaders and interacting with business leaders, to hone their edge. The regional qualifiers are being held across the four regions – North, South, East and West – and the top two teams from each of the regions will compete for The Maverick 2014 title at the grand finale to be held in Deloitte’s Hyderabad office on September 26, 2014.

The winning team from season II, from the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune, says, “The one word that best describes the Maverick is 'Exhilarating'. Right from the onset when we were given the first case, we have had a fabulous time ideating, analyzing our solutions, and working together. Working with the best brains on campus to meeting industry bigwigs, it was an enthralling journey. The scale of the event in itself was something that kept us motivated to go ahead.”
