McLaren to enter India later this year

The British sports car manufacturer McLaren announced on Monday that it was expanding into India, with the opening of its first retail location in Mumbai later this year.

Only slightly more than 1% of the approximately 3 million yearly sales in India, which is mostly a low-cost and price-sensitive auto market, are for premium cars. Infinity Cars has been chosen by McLaren as its retail partner in the nation, and the Mumbai location is scheduled to open in October.

After failing to achieve lower import duties, Tesla Inc. postponed plans to sell its electric cars in India and gave up looking for showroom space, as per the sources available on the internet. Suzuki Motor Corp., which owns a majority of Maruti Suzuki, is the largest automaker in India and dominates the market for entry-level small cars.
