Ample opportunities for ISACA certified professionals in finance: IRDA

The theme for this year’s annual event–GRC 2.0 for SMAC witnessed domain experts and professionals from across industries

RK Nair, Member-Finance and Investments, Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority (IRDA) inaugurated the ISACA India Conference 2014 on Saturday, July 26, 2014.
The theme for this year’s annual event–GRC 2.0 for SMAC witnessed domain experts and professionals from across industries sharing their insights on the next level of GRC (governance, risk management and compliance). The event focused on helping businesses address security challenges related to the adoption of SMAC (Social Media, Mobility, Analytics and Cloud Computing) technologies.
The two-day event held at the Palladium Hotel, Mumbai was inaugurated in the presence of Vaibhav Patkar, President, ISACA Mumbai Chapter; Sunder Krishnan, Conference Director IIC 2014 and Chairman, ISACA India Task Force; Vittal Raj, International VP, ISACA; Andrew Calhoun, Director–Membership Services, ISACA and Avinash Kadam, Advisor, ISACA India Task Force.
ISACA is a global association serving 115,000 information systems governance, assurance, security and risk professionals in 180 countries. ISACA has more than 6,000 members and certification holders in India who belong to 10 chapters.
IIC 2014 was inaugurated by the chief guest RK Nair, Member (F&I), IRDA (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority).
During his keynote address, RK Nair, emphasized on the importance of GRC 2.0 as he said, “GRC is extremely important because we believe that today’s enterprises are transforming themselves into boundary free enterprises. As a result, businesses and individuals are less encumbered by the constraint of time and space as they work through a whole new array of time and location independent computing capabilities.”
He further added, “Going forward, we need to learn lessons from what has happened in the western market and correct ourselves by using the right technology to grow. As a result, there are ample opportunities for ISACA certified professionals especially in the financial sector.”
The event witnessed a sizeable turnout, which included ISACA members, CIOs, IT auditors and security professionals from leading organizations in the city. Additionally, at a grand ceremony on Saturday evening, the winners of the ISACA Awards were announced. HDFC Bank, Endurance Technologies, JWT and Capgemini India were declared winners in the IT security category, while the Shamrao Vithal Co-Operative Bank bagged the award for best IT Governance – Co-operative Bank Segment.
Commenting on the ISACA Awards, Sunder Krishnan said, “It is very important for CTOs, CFO’s, Independent directors, and the Audit Committee to get ample confidence to assert that their internal controls are effective and reliable, under the new Companies Act, 2013. One of the very important aspects of internal controls is IT Governance, IT Security and IT Controls. The ISACA Awards is our endeavor to recognize organizations that have effectively implemented IT Governance and Information Security. Further, he added that ISACA India is working on a guidance note to provide assurance to signatories of the Annual reports to state the assertions in the Annual Report.”
