Ms Anita Paul, Founder & Chairperson of Mahila Umang Producers Co. Ltd., has bagged the 18th IMC Ladies’ Wing Jankidevi Bajaj Puraskar 2010 in recognition of her outstanding contribution towards Rural Entrepreneurship. The award ceremony was presented by the Chief Guest,  Zia Mody, Senior Partner, AZB & Partners at a grand function in Mumbai on January 7.


“Even though Anita Paul hail from rural area, her understanding of the rural realities is phenomenal and her dedication towards promotion of Rural Entrepreneurship is praiseworthy. “Zia Mody, remarked.

 

She went on to praise the Jury Members for performing a difficult task of choosing Anita Paul as the winner of the award. The jury members included Justice C.S. Dharmadhikari (Retd.), Chairman; S Ranjana Kumar, Former Vigilance Commissioner, Central Vigilance Commission; Dr. Vandana Chakrabarti, Director, Dept. of Continuing & Adult Education and Extension Work S. N. D. T. Women’s University; . Mukul Upadhyaya, CEO, Touchstone Advertising & Marketing Service; Prof. M. Suresh Rao, Chairperson, Centre for Entrepreneurship, S P Jain Institute of Management Research.

 

Speaking on the successful commencement of this event, Dr. Smita Dandekar, President, IMC Ladies’ Wing said that, “On the commemoration of the 18th year of this initiative we are privileged to have Ms Zia Mody and Ms Anita Paul.”

 

Two inspiring stalwarts who had made a mark in two very important sectors of human endeavour. “They have not only defined the role of a complete woman through their passion and commitment, but also have enabled other women to dream and also to live their dream! We look forward to witness many such opportunities to celebrate and honor the achievements and progress of women who have in their own way contributed to the betterment of the economic status of their region and nation at large.” Zia Mody said.


On receiving the award, Anita Paul said, “This prestigious award recognizes the efforts of all of us at Umang who have worked long hours to achieve our vision in the mountains of Uttarakhand in harmony with the local ecosystem. I am happy to know that rural development work is finally being recognized and give its due place in our society.


“I accept this award in all humility on behalf of my brothers and sisters at Umang. I also thank IMC for encouraging work in rural development and felicitating rural entrepreneurs and innovators on a public platform. Through their initiative, IMC has certainly set up an example to encourage more women to launch scalable and venture capital funded businesses in rural areas.”


Zia Mody stated, “The girl child in the rural areas grew in extremely adverse conditions and yet made enormous contributions to for enriching the socio economic environment.” She joined voice with Justice C. S. Dhramaadhikari that the civilized society had a responsibility towards the underprivileged girl child in rural areas for proper upbringing of the girl child in the rural areas.
