Equity MFs redeem shares worth Rs. 109bn in 2013

Equity mutual funds (MFs) offloaded shares worth Rs. 109.21 billion since the beginning of 2013, according to the SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) data.

However, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) invested Rs. 795.54 billion in the equities so far this year.

The redemption comes after a net outflow of Rs. 206.53 billion in the entire 2012.

On monthly basis, MFs offloaded Rs. 52.12 billion from the stock market in January, followed by Rs. 8.48 billon in February, Rs. 16.14 billion in March, Rs. 5.39 billion in April and Rs. 27.08 billion in May so far.

AMCs (asset management companies) made a net investment of Rs. 2.04 trillion this year so far in debt market in 2013 against Rs 4.55 trillion in 2012.
