Mutual funds assets increase 16% in April

The AUM of mutual fund industry increased to Rs. 6.8 trillion on 30th April from Rs. 92 9.37 billion in March

The assets under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry have rose by about 16%on a month-on-month basis in April. The AUM of the industry increased to Rs.6.8 trillion on 30th April from Rs. 92 9.37 billion in March.

The rise in the AUM was due to increase in investments in the income fund category,which grew by 6.5% to Rs. 3.09 trillion. The investments in equity schemes of mutual funds declined 1.4% to Rs. 1.56 trillion.

Investments in liquid and money market funds increased by almost 100%. These funds now account for 23% of the total industry AUM, up from about 14% in March 2012. The gold ETFs (exchange traded funds) corpus rose 3.4% to Rs. 98.86 billion. The AUM of ETFs (other than gold) decreased 4% to Rs. 16.07 billion.
