The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road has proved to be a major relief for traffic movement on the Eastern Express Highway. Besides providing the excellent East-West connectivity, the vital link road is being used by more than 75,000 vehicles on a daily basis, reducing burden on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH).

Earlier, close to 1,25,000 PCUs (Passenger Car Units) used to ply on EEH during peak hours. With the SCLR taking up to 75,000 PCUs, the stretch between Ghatkopar to Sion sees lesser number of vehicles reducing the pressure on the EEH.

“The traffic burden on EEH has considerably reduced after the inauguration of SCLR. Besides, travel distance from Eastern Suburbs such as Chembur, Ghatkopar towards BKC, Santacruz and domestic as well as International Airport is also reduced by approximately an hour,” said Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director (PR), MMRDA.

SCLR comprises of India’s first Double Decker flyover. The 3.5 km long project faced innumerable court cases, various issues related to resettlement and rehabilitation etc. However, motorists are full of praises since the road opened in April this year.

“MMRDA is committed to provide world class infrastructure to the city of Mumbai and the region. Using SCLR, motorists can save time to get to the Western Express Highway and towards Bandra-Kurla Complex from the Eastern suburbs. The Sion circle area is also witnesses lesser traffic snarls” said Kawathkar.
