The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) established its first battery-swapping facility for electric vehicles (EV) in Kolkata on Monday. The oil marketing PSU opened the facility in collaboration with Sun Mobility at its retail outlet in New Town on the city’s eastern outskirts, the company said in a statement, adding that this is a significant step forward in promoting sustainable and accessible electric mobility solutions throughout the city.
The battery-swapping technology presents a significant opportunity for promoting sustainable electric mobility solutions, stated IOC director (marketing) V Satish Kumar. This facility is projected to play a critical role in EV uptake and energy transformation in eastern India.
In India, battery-swapping technology for two and three-wheeler EVs has proven to be a game changer.
IOC, in collaboration with Sun Mobility, will build more battery-replacing facilities at its retail stores in the coming months, allowing drivers to utilise its easy and efficient option for immediately swapping drained batteries for fully charged ones.
This allows for speedier turnaround times, making EVs more user-friendly.
Sun Mobility CEO Anant Badjatya expanded, saying that cutting-edge technology will move mobility forward and play a vital role in reducing bottlenecks for EV consumers.
