Markets closed on a flat note; PSU Bank stocks outperformed

Markets witnessed a volatile day of trade with the benchmark index Nifty closed on a flat note. Bank Nifty outperformed the Nifty index by 0.8%. The index hit fresh lifetime high after a gap of 13 months. Nifty PSU Bank index was among the top outperformers, closing ~3.5% higher with majority of its constituents like SBI, BOB & Canara Bank adding heavy long positions. Midcap 100 index closed higher, up 0.5%. Market breadth ended in the favour of the declines with the advance/decline ratio closing at 1:2x. Nifty Bank index saw an addition of long positions during the day.
