Nifty FMCG trades higher to go with upbeat markets; Godrej Consumer, United Spirits lift performance

Radico Khaitan, Colgate Palmolive, Nestle India and Tata Consumer also outperformed on Tuesday.

Nifty FMCG stocks rallied to add to huge gains by overall markets on Tuesday. The Index gained nearly 450 points with Godrej Consumer Products and United Spirits rising over 4%. The Index was upbeat despite trimming some gains in the afternoon. 

Benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 witnessed a bull run after a hysteric selloff of the previous day, tracking positive Asian cues, shrugging off the beating of Wall Street overnight. Sensex surged 1,000 pts, Nifty around 16,900.

At around 1.10 pm, BSE Sensex was trading at 56,724.96 up 902.95 points or 1.62% and Nifty50 at 16,884.65 up 270.45 points or 1.63%.

Nifty FMCG was trading at 36,463.85 up 379.20 points or 1.05%, touching a high of 36,674.00 and low of 36,174.45 during intraday trade on Tuesday.

Godrej Consumer Products' share price rose 4% to Rs927.35, breaking a 4-day losing streak. United Spirits was also 3.6% higher at Rs893.95 per piece to push up the index. 

Radico Khaitan gained 2.7% at Rs1,072.80 per piece. Colgate Palmolive was 1.8% higher at Rs1,441.25 per piece. Nestle India and 
Tata Consumer also rose over 1.5% each to outperform. 

Britannia, Procter & Gamble Hygiene and United Breweries was also over 1% higher.

Varun Beverages (down 0.88%) and Emami (down 0.77%) were bearish. The Index had 12 advances and 3 declines on the NSE.
