Rupee rises 6 paise at 71.44 against dollar

The local currency closed 24 paise higher on Tuesday at 71.50 against the greenback.

The Indian rupee rose 6 paise against the dollar amid month-end fund flows and the latest remarks of President Donald Trump on the US-China interim trade deal. The currency opened at 71.44 per dollar vs. previous close 71.48/$.

The local currency closed 24 paise higher on Tuesday at 71.50 against the greenback.

As per media reports, US President Trump said on Tuesday that the US and China are close to agreement on the first phase of a trade deal after top negotiators from the two countries spoke and agreed to keep working on remaining issues.

Besides, the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs4,677.75cr and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs4,242.01cr on Tuesday, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges.

Back home, the Sensex was trading higher by 199 points at 41,020, and the Nifty was up 56 points at 12,094.
