Asian markets traded mixed in the early start as markets continue to seek direction with event risk seeing caution prevail. Rise in US bond yields to 4 month highs, strength in the US $ ahead of the US elections & the subsequent Fed monetary policy are all seeing profit booking in most global equity markets. Oil prices retreated while Gold prices firmed up as defensive buying re emerged.
Nifty saw very range bound trade for a second day as foreign selling was matched by domestic flows. Results season started with above estimate earnings by selected banks while IT heavyweights lowered guidance for the coming quarters with most eyes on the US elections & IT spending & visa cost issues being key imponderables. Big FDI deals by ADAG & Essar group was the other highlight as huge debt reduction should see banks with high corporate loan books see huge relief & possibly re rating. The other positive would be the spurt in exports after almost 6 months on the trade data which will see both current & fiscal deficit come much below estimates.
