Sensex, Nifty under pressure; Pharma index outperforms

Axis Bank, GAIL, Tech Mahindra and Cipla are among the top gainers, while Bajaj Finance, Eicher and HDFC are down on the Nifty index.

Equity benchmark indices are trading under pressure on Monday morning trade, with the Sensex down 599 points or 2% at 29,216 and the Nifty lower by 1.89% at 8,497.

Axis Bank, GAIL, Tech Mahindra and Cipla are among the top gainers, while Bajaj Finance, Eicher and HDFC are down on the Nifty index.

The most active stocks on the NSE are Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and Reliance.

India VIX was up 2.82% at 72.37.

Baring pharma, FMCG and IT sectors, all sectoral indices were trading in the red on NSE.

The Nifty Bank index slipped 2.3% dragged by Federal Bank, IDFC First Bank, HDFC Bank, RBL Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank which are down in the range of 3-5%.

From the pharma space, the index climbed 1% in an otherwise weak market. Glenmark, Biocon, Piramal and Cadila were trading lower, however, Cipla jumped 3%. Lupin, Aurobindo Pharma, Dr Reddy’s and Sun Pharma were up 1-2%, respectively.
