Changhong announces launch of India operations

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suggested June 2015 as the deadline for all cable operators to move to digital television signals India would soon require 100 million set-top boxes.

Sichuan Changhong Network Technologies Co., Ltd; one of the largest set top box manufacturer and exporter in China announced formal launch of its India operations.


Commenting on the announcement Lin Maoxiang, Vice-Chairman of Changhong Group said, “A huge market like India needs a great deal of customization as it is not possible to ship everything from China. We are planning to ramp up sales support capabilities in India and also increase the strength of the local team. We may also look at a manufacturing base either in Mumbai or Delhi very soon in near future. We have already entered in to technology partnerships with Indian Software Development Companies” added Maoxiang.

“If the business grows like what we have seen in Europe, we will further participate in the operations by increasing financial and technological investments,” said Richard Lin, Vice President International Business Changhong Network Technologies Ltd.


Moving in this direction Changhong Network Company has also entered into an agreement with Hong Kong based Starton Ltd as its sole agent for the STB business focused on Pay TV operator segments in the Indian market.


Globally, Changhong has manufacturing plants in Russia, Indonesia, the US and North Africa. Subsidiary company Sichuan Changhong Network Technologies, which offers set-top boxes and other digital television broadcasting applications, has been exporting set-top boxes to India since 2008. However, it is only now that the company has formally set up a branch office here in Mumbai.
