According to the India Tourism Statistics 2022 report, which was released on Tuesday by the ministry of tourism, due to restrictions related to Covid-19, the number of foreign tourists arriving in India in 2021 fell to 1.52 million from 2.74 million in 2020, a drop of 44.5%, even though foreign exchange earnings increased during the same period. 10.93 million foreign visitors arrived in India in 2019, but this number fell by 75% in 2020.
On Tuesday, World Tourism Day, the data were presented at the National Tourism Awards ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi serves as the “brand ambassador” of Indian tourism, according to Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, who also stated that India intends to present itself as a top tourist destination while holding the G20 presidency in 2023.
“Our goal is to promote India as a must-visit country on a global scale during the presidency. For circuit-specific trains, 3600 railroad coaches have been set aside for tourism-related purposes. These trains have already begun for the Buddhist and Ramayana circuits, and the one for the Krishna circuit will soon follow “added he. Our goal, he continued, is to elevate India to a position of prominence on the global stage.
The draft national tourism policy 2022, according to the minister of state for tourism Ajay Bhatt, aims to improve the framework conditions for tourism development in the nation in addition to promoting tourism industries, bolstering tourism support functions, and developing tourism subsectors. The Indian tourist industry, according to tourism secretary Arvind Singh, has become one of the main engines of growth for the Indian economy since Covid.
