The National Stock Exchange (NSE) banned trading for 11 stocks in the futures and options (F&O) segment on August 25, 2023. This ban came into effect due to these securities exceeding 95 % of the market-wide position limit (MWPL), prompting the NSE to restrict their F&O trading.
However, trading in these stocks is still permitted in the cash market. Among the affected stocks are RBL Bank, GMR Infrastructure, BHEL, Metropolis Healthcare Ltd, Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers And Chemicals Limited, Delta Corp, Hindustan Copper, India Cements, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Punjab National Bank, and Manappuram Finance.
The NSE regularly updates the list of banned securities based on their derivative contracts crossing the 95 % MWPL threshold. During this ban, traders and members can only trade in derivative contracts of these securities to decrease their positions through offsetting transactions. Initiating new positions in any of the F&O contracts related to these stocks is not allowed during the ban period.
