ATGL, co-promoted by Adani Group and TotalEnergies, initiates a green hydrogen blending pilot project in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad. Latest technologies used to blend green hydrogen (GH2) with natural gas for over 4,000 residential and commercial customers.
GH2 produced through water electrolysis with renewable energy-generated electricity; blending is less carbon-intensive than burning gas. Project commissioning expected by FY24-25; gradual increase in green hydrogen blend to up to 8% or more, subject to regulatory approvals.
Up to 8% hydrogen blend can reduce emissions by up to 4%, according to studies. After the pilot, hydrogen-blended fuel to be supplied to larger parts of the city and other AGTL license areas. ATGL aims to partner with stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, for knowledge sharing on hydrogen blending in city gas distribution.
Initiative focuses on sharing operational knowledge and compatibility of blended fuel with existing infrastructure.
Suresh P Manglani, CEO of ATGL, emphasizes the commitment to environmentally sustainable operations and contributing to India’s energy independence by 2047.
Investment in innovative projects like this actively contributes to the industry’s evolution and progress in sustainable energy solutions.
