India’s aviation regulator suspended Air India’s Chief of Flight Safety due to identified lapses, effective for one month. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducted a surveillance of Air India on July 25 and 26, focusing on internal audit, accident prevention, and technical manpower availability. The suspension resulted from established deficiencies in accident prevention measures and the availability of necessary technical staff, as outlined in approved safety guidelines.
An August inspection revealed that Air India fabricated reports for 13 safety checkpoints, as required for routine safety spot checks by the DGCA. The suspension follows prior issues between the Tata-owned airline and the DGCA, involving a show cause notice earlier this year regarding lapses in reporting an incident where a pilot allowed a female friend into the cockpit during a flight.
