Bharti Airtel, the telecom giant, said in an exchange filing on Monday that it plans to introduce ‘Airtel Xstream AirFiber,’ India’s first fixed wireless access (FWA) offering 5G for consumers in Delhi and Mumbai.
According to the company, all Xstream AirFiber devices would be built in India under the ‘Make in India’ program.
Airtel’s latest launch will be India’s first 5G wireless Wi-Fi solution, providing internet access to users in fiber-deficient areas. The startup wants to address the issue of last-mile connectivity in both rural and urban India, where access to fiber infrastructure is limited.
At the moment, fiber-to-home internet services connect only 34 million houses in India, and a large proportion of users are unable to obtain fiber connections.
According to the business, the AirFiber service will be accessible with plans starting at Rs 799 and offering up to 100Mbps speed. The plan is available for six months with a one-time refundable security deposit of Rs 2,500.
Customers in Delhi and Mumbai who are interested in this service can visit selected Airtel stores or the company’s website for additional information.
