Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), a leading OMC, has formed a strategic cooperation with Ather Energy to develop and expand the network of electric vehicle charging stations.
Through this agreement, Ather Energy will gain access to BPCL’s nationwide network of over 21,000 petrol stations, allowing the installation of Ather’s fast-charging Grid.
Currently, the EV manufacturer has over 1,400 chargers deployed across 100 cities. By collaborating with BPCL, it hopes to speed the spread of the Ather Grid, catering to the rising customer base of its electric scooters across the country.
According to the EV manufacturer, this agreement will expand its coverage in metropolitan regions and allow the implementation of charging infrastructure along high-traffic interstate routes. Ather Energy has successfully built four fast chargers in various locations in the Delhi NCR in its maiden phase. By the end of the year, the company expects to have installed more than 100 fast chargers at BPCL outlets across India.
BPCL intends to build a network of 7,000 energy stations throughout India.
‘Our partnership with Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) builds the momentum even further to create a widespread, nationwide charging network,’ Ravneet Phokela, Chief Business Officer, of Ather Energy, told ET. This partnership will let us take advantage of BPCL’s enormous fuel station network, bringing our fast-charging Grid closer to our clients across the country.’
‘BPCL is constantly striving to align ourselves with the nation’s vision of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040,’ Rajiv Dutta, Head Retail North, BPCL, told ET. We are getting closer to our objective of transforming 7,000 of our conventional Retail Outlets into Energy Stations as part of a comprehensive decarbonization strategy that will support and prioritize sustainable efforts. Electric 2-wheelers are leading EV adoption; a charging infrastructure at retail outlets will provide early EV users with confidence and convenience.’
