Benchmark Indices Edge Higher Despite Volatility, Nifty Nears 21,000

In a volatile trading session on December 11, benchmark indices concluded on a positive note, with Nifty hovering around 21,000. At the close, the Sensex showed a gain of 102.93 points or 0.15 percent, reaching 69,928.53, while the Nifty recorded an uptick of 27.70 points or 0.13 percent, settling at 20,997.10. 

Among the listed stocks, 2,211 registered gains, 1,358 experienced declines, and 174 remained unchanged.

Top performers on the Nifty included UPL, UltraTech Cement, ONGC, Adani Enterprises, and LTIMindtree, whereas the laggards comprised Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Cipla, Axis Bank, BPCL, and M&M.

In terms of sectors, PSU Bank, FMCG, power, metal, and realty observed gains of 0.5-1 percent, while the pharma index saw a 0.4 percent decline.

The BSE midcap index demonstrated a notable rise of 1 percent, and the smallcap index posted a gain of 0.7 percent.
