Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) informed the investors and exchanges that the company has achieved a major milestone with the despatch of the 42nd Nuclear Steam Generator to the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL). It will install the steam generator for a 700Mwe unit NPCIL’s Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP). The steam generator was flagged off from BHEL’s Trichy plant in the presence of senior officials of BHEL and NPCIL.
BHEL has been contributing to the nation’s Nuclear Programme since 1976 by way of design, testing, manufacture, and supply of critical nuclear components like Reactor Headers, Steam Generators, Pressure Vessels, Steam Turbine Generators, and other Heat Exchangers.
The first stage of the indigenous nuclear power program of the country has matured with 18 operating PHWRs. Out of the 18, 74% of the Indigenous Nuclear Power capacity are equipped with BHEL-supplied Steam Turbine Generator sets.
BHEL is the only Indian Company that is associated with all three stages of the Indian Nuclear Power Programme-the first stage Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR). It has also been a partner for over four decades in the development of the indigenous Nuclear Power Programme since its inception.
The 220 MW Unit-1, equipped with BHEL-supplied sets at the indigenously developed Kaiga Atomic Power Station (KAPS) of NPCIL, had created a world record of continuous operation for 962 days.
