According to a statement from BHEL, this is the biggest order in the electricity sector that the business has secured through competitive bidding.

‘An order to establish a 2,400 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Project is awarded to BHEL. The business announced that BHEL has secured the coveted order under the International Competitive Bidding (ICB) for the greenfield project at Jharsuguda, Odisha, on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis.

For the 3×800 MW thermal power project, the EPC contract covers the engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of critical equipment such boilers, turbines, generators, and other auxiliary systems.

Boilers with the potential to co-fire biomass and extremely effective, state-of-the-art pollution control equipment are also included in the scope. In 64 months, the project will be put into operation. After it is put into service, this plant will help the nation meet its base load electricity needs.

The main equipment will be produced in BHEL’s plants in Varanasi, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Bengaluru, Ranipet, Bhopal, Rudrapur, and Trichy. The civil works, equipment setup, and commissioning will be handled by the company’s power sector in the southern area.

With a long-standing relationship with NLCIL, BHEL installed a substantial 77% of the utility’s 3,590 MW of coal/lignite-based power plants.
