By 2025–2026, Ambuja Cements plans to invest Rs 6,000 crore to add 1,000 MW of solar and wind generating capacity throughout Gujarat and Rajasthan, the firm announced on Monday.
The Adani Group, which consists of 18 integrated production plants and 14 grinding units, is presently the second-largest cement producer in the country, with a capacity of around 75 million tonnes. By 2027, it intends to utilise 60% green energy to reach its target production capacity of 140 million tonnes. All of the money needed to finance this renewable energy investment would come from internal accruals.
‘Our unwavering dedication to sustainable practices is reaffirmed by this important investment. The chief executive officer of the cement division of the Adani Group, Ajay Kapur, stated, ‘We are not just aiming for a substantial increase in green power capacity but also setting the stage for a transformative shift in the cement industry.’
In addition to a 250 MW solar power plant in Rajasthan, the company plans to establish a 600 MW solar power and 150 MW wind power project in Gujarat. By March, the 84 MW of solar and wind electricity it currently has will increase to 200 MW.
