The Union Cabinet approved provisions of the National Green Hydrogen Mission on Wednesday, according to Union Minister Anurag Thakur, who spoke to the media.
The government has approved Rs19,744 crore for project implementation.
Thakur stated that Rs17,490 crore will be allocated for Strategic Interventions from the sanctioned amount. While, Rs1,466 crore will be spent on pilot projects.
R&D is expected to receive an investment of Rs800 crore. According to Thakur, the mission will be used to develop infrastructure under the PM Gati Shakti scheme.
Incentives will also be provided for the production of electrolysers in the country over a five-year period.
During his Independence Day speech in 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the National Hydrogen Mission.
The mission aims at providing direct incentives for green hydrogen manufacturing and hydrogen generation using green power sources. It is geared toward making India a global hub for hydrogen manufacturing.
