Cipla, a pharmaceutical company, announced on Tuesday that it has started using drones to transport crucial medicines to hospitals and pharmacies in Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with Skye Air Mobility.
As part of the plan, the Mumbai-based company intends to distribute drugs for cardiac, pulmonary, and other critical chronic therapies.
Drones will help Cipla transport medicines to pharmacists and clinics in rural places on time while reducing hazards such as delays, temperature excursions impacting cold chain products, and traffic accidents, according to a release.
‘As we speed up our digital agenda across all functions, setting up drone-powered distribution improves our supply chain resilience, bolsters connect with channel partners, helps us stay future ready and maintain reliable, prompt delivery of our trusted high-quality drugs to patients and stockists in the region,’ said Swapn Malpani, Cipla Global Supply Chain Head.
The medication company also stated that it plans to grow the service in the future by distributing it to hospitals and expanding market reach to inaccessible and hilly terrains such as Uttarakhand and India’s Northeast region.
