South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), one of Coal India’s largest coal-producing subsidiaries, is developing 600 MW rooftop and ground-mounted solar power projects.
According to a government press release, SECL, the Miniratna PSU, plans to develop the above projects at a cost of more than Rs 1,000 crore, with some of these projects being implemented in RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company)/BOO (Build-Own-Operate) mode.
The company said that this is part of its strategy for expansion and diversification of business and aims to achieve the ‘Net Zero Energy’.
According to the release, the strategy is in line with the larger goal of ‘Panchamrit’ announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at CoP-26 to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2070.
SECL recently completed rooftop solar projects with a capacity of 580 kWp in Johilla, Jamuna-Kotma, and Kusmunda.
The two largest solar projects that are currently under construction, each have a capacity of 40 MW. The company is developing a 40 MW ground-mounted, grid-connected solar PV plant on its land in the Bhatgaon and Bishrampur areas of Chattisgarh’s Surajpur district.
The said projects are at their execution stage and are expected to be completed by 2023-24.
At around 12.54 AM, Coal India was trading 0.47% higher at Rs 235.10, against the previous close of Rs 234 on NSE.
