The state-owned power company NTPC announced on Sunday that the production from its captive coal mines increased by 65% year over year to more than 23 million tonnes in FY23.
According to a company statement, NTPC Ltd.’s four operational coal mines — TPC Pakri-Barwadih (Jharkhand), NTPC Chatti Bariatu (Jharkhand), NTPC Dulanga (Odisha), and NTPC Talaipalli (Chhattisgarh) — produced 23.2 million tonnes of coal in FY23, an increase of 65% from the 14.02 million tonnes produced a year earlier.
NTPC also removed 73.0 million cubic metres of overburden in one year, which is an astounding 129% increase over the 31.9 million cubic metres removed in the previous fiscal year.
The accomplishment reflects NTPC’s dedication to raising domestic coal production in order to fulfil the nation’s rising need for electricity, the statement stated.
The management of NTPC gave due credit the roles of the power ministry, coal ministry, state governments, among others, for their support of its coal mining in enhancing production.
