Dhanuka Group seeks action against companies selling fake pesticides

27 Sep 2022 , 06:42 AM

The agrochemical company Dhanuka Group claimed on Monday that numerous ghost businesses were peddling fake pesticides on the domestic market and requested action to stop the unlawful trade, which has an effect on all parties involved, including farmers.

Three manufacturing facilities belonging to the Dhanuka Group are situated in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir. Over Rs1,500 crore in revenue was reported by its listed company, Dhanuka Agritech, in the most recent fiscal year.

Dhanuka Group Chairman R G Agarwal noted in a statement that an international study places the share of illegal pesticides at 10 to 25% of the entire global pesticides business, which is worth USD 80 billion.

He stated in a statement that “farmers, industry, government, and environment are being impacted by the unlawful parallel market of agrochemicals.”

The usage of fake items has a negative impact on soil fertility.

Agarwal claimed that the domestic agrochemicals industry’s growth is being hampered by the sales of fraudulent, counterfeit, duplicate, and misbranded goods.

Agarwal recommended that the national campaign to combat illicit trade be launched by the federal government in collaboration with all states, union territories, and commercial players. Farmers should be made aware of the negative repercussions of using fake products through a nationwide campaign.

He voiced concern over crop losses of at least Rs 8 lakh crore each year brought on by pests and diseases and noted that India uses a very little amount of pesticides per acre in comparison to China.

The Dhanuka Group announced the commencement of “Jago Kisan Jago,” a program to inform farmers about the dangers of fake goods and how to avoid them.

Agro Chem Federation of India (ACFI) recently introduced an initiative to raise awareness about the responsible use of quality pesticides in Nagpur using mobile vans.
