According to recent reports, domestic air passenger traffic in India saw a decline of approximately 2% in January, as airlines carried 125.42 lakh passengers, down from 127.35 lakh in December. Despite the gradual recovery in air travel since the pandemic-induced lockdowns, air traffic still remains below pre-Covid levels.
Domestic airlines reported that it carried 127.83 lakh passengers in January 2020. Air India surpassed Vistara as the second largest airline in India, with a 9.2% share of the domestic aviation market, while IndiGo maintained its lead with a 54.6% share.
IndiGo also topped the on-time performance charts, with 84.6% of its flights arriving on time, while Air India’s punctuality fell to 75.7%.
