The first estimate for euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world in September 2022 was ?259.6 billion, an increase of 23.6% compared with September 2021 (?210.1 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at ?294.0 bn, a rise of 44.5% compared with September 2021 (?203.4 bn). As a result, the euro area recorded a ?34.4 bn deficit in trade in goods with the rest of the world in September 2022, compared with a surplus of ?6.7 bn in September 2021. Intra-euro area trade rose to ?247.6 bn in September 2022, up by 27.3% compared with September 2021 (?194.5 bn). In January to September 2022, euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world rose to ?2 120.3 bn (an increase of 19.2% compared with January-September 2021), and imports rose to ?2 386.9 bn (an increase of 44.7% compared with January-September 2021). As a result the euro area recorded a deficit of ?266.6 bn, compared with a surplus of ?129.2 bn in January-September 2021.
