Following a jump in monthly sales in August at 62,692 units compared to July, the electric two-wheeler (E2W) market saw a modest gain in volumes in September at 63,760 units, according to data.
According to industry watchers, the 1.70 percent month-on-month (MoM) growth in sales in September was mostly attributable to consumers’ sustained interest in E2Ws. E2W registrations increased 19.65% year on year (YoY) in August, from 53,286 units the previous year.
Following the reduction in E2W subsidies in May, there was a huge drop in June at 46,057 units, followed by an increase in July at 54,750 units. Before subsidy changes, E2W sales reached an all-time high of 1,05,527 units in May.
Vahan simply keeps track of the total number of recorded sales, not bookings. It also excludes data for Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana, as well as low-speed E2W sales.
Sales growth varies depending on the industry player. While EV manufacturers such as Ola Electric and Ather Energy saw their numbers fall from August, players like TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, and Ampere Electric, among others, experienced an increase.
