Fuel demand grows 22%-26% in the first fortnight of October

17 Oct 2022 , 08:57 AM

According to preliminary industry figures, India had record-high gasoline sales in the first half of October as demand for transportation fuel increased across the board as the festival season began to heat up.

In the first half of October, sales of gasoline and diesel increased month over month and by 22 to 26% annually. When compared to consumption of 1.05 million tonnes during the same period last year, gasoline sales during the first 15 days of October increased by 22.7% to 1.28 million tonnes.

Sales were 31% greater than the first half of October 2020, which was plagued by COVID, and 33.4% higher than October 1—15, 2019, before the epidemic. Demand was 1.3% greater than in September 2022’s first half.

In the first two weeks of October, sales of diesel, the most popular fuel in the nation, increased by about 27% to 3.08 million tonnes from the corresponding time in 2016.

Consumption was up 26.6 % from pre-COVID 2019 and up 16 percent from October 1—15, 2020. Demand for gasoline increased 6.9% month over month, following a sales decline of close to 5% in August and a recovery in September.
