GoM sticks to its suggestion of 28% GST on online gambling

13 Jul 2022 , 10:20 AM

The GoM held a discussion on internet gambling, horse racing, and casinos on Tuesday (12-07-2022) without making any changes to the proposed GST rate of 28 percent, according to sources cited by ET Now.

However, before delivering the final report to the GST Council, the ministerial committee will convene one more. On August 10, 2022, the issue’s final report is anticipated to be released.

Last month, the 47th GST Council meeting, presided over by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, resolved to create a GoM to address a number of issues that the states had with the GSTAT’s creation.

According to a statement from the finance ministry, “the GST Council discussed the changes needed in provisions pertaining to the GST Appellate Tribunal in the GST Laws to bring it in conformity with judgments of the courts in relation to various aspects concerning Tribunals” during its 47th meeting, which was held on June 28 and 29 in Chandigarh.

Accordingly, the Council has agreed to form a GoM to investigate the pertinent problems, it was stated in the statement. Buggana Rajendranath, the finance minister for Andhra Pradesh, Mauvin Godinho, the transport minister for Goa, Shanti Kumar Dhariwal, the minister for law and legal affairs for Rajasthan, Suresh Khanna, and Niranjan Pujari, the minister for finance for Uttar Pradesh, are the other members of the GoM.

As per the announcement, the GOM on GSTAT must suggest any changes to the GST regulations that are essential to preserve the proper federal balance and to further the goal of uniform taxation across the nation.
