Una district in Himachal Pradesh has received a kick-start for its bulk drug park project as the government approves the first tranche of a Rs225 crore grant-in-aid to support the development of shared infrastructure facilities.
The grant-in-aid was made possible by the central government’s Department of Pharmaceuticals under the guidelines of the Promotion of Bulk Drug Park Scheme.
According to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the bulk drug park carries significant national importance and plays a vital role in enhancing the state’s current pharmaceutical ecosystem.
The Chief Minister released a statement on Saturday night, assuring that the state government will prioritize the timely completion of the project, given its estimated investment potential of Rs 8,000-10,000 crore and the anticipated creation of over 15,000 employment opportunities.
On February 15, the government registered the Himachal Pradesh Bulk Drug Park Infrastructure Limited (HPBDPIL) as the State Implementing Agency with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
To ensure uninterrupted power supply, the bulk drug park is expected to consume approximately 120 MW of electricity, prompting the planned construction of two transmission lines from Una and Tahliwal.
