Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) and GAIL India have reached a significant milestone by signing an interconnection agreement to connect the North East Gas Grid (NEGG) of IGGL with GAIL’s Barauni Guwahati Pipeline (BGPL). The official release announcing this collaboration was made on Saturday.
The agreement was formally signed by the Chief Executive Officer of IGGL, Ajit Kumar Thakur, and GAIL’s Zonal Chief General Manager, R Choudhury, on Friday. The interconnection agreement is designed to enable the seamless integration of the NEGG and BGPL at three strategic locations, namely Jalpaiguri in West Bengal and Baihata and Panikhaiti in Assam.
With this interconnection agreement in place, the NEGG will become an integral part of the National Gas Grid, further enhancing the accessibility and availability of natural gas in the North East region.
To facilitate the interconnection, GAIL will undertake the pipeline laying process, estimated to cost Rs 15.16 crore. IGGL will duly reimburse this amount to GAIL for the services rendered.
The NEGG project, undertaken by IGGL, involves the laying of a 1,656 km-long gas grid at an estimated project cost of Rs 9,265 crore.
As of now, the NEGG project has achieved significant progress, with a physical completion rate of 75 %. Phase I of the project is scheduled to reach mechanical completion by March 2024, as per the release.
