In the June quarter, the production from captive and commercial coal blocks climbed by 79% to 27.7 Million Tonnes (MT). The coal ministry also expressed optimism that the target production of 32 MT from commercial and captive mines will be met during the second quarter of FY23.
“On July 6, 2022, in the presence of the project proponents, the Additional Secretary and Nominated Authority, Ministry of Coal, assessed the production from coal blocks during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2022—23. 27.7 MT of coal were produced during the first quarter, which is 79% more than the 15.5 MT produced during the same period in FY 2021—2022 “In a statement, the coal ministry stated.
The efforts of the owners of coal blocks in generating such substantial development were also recognized by the government.
According to the report, two coal blocks purchased through a commercial mines auction last year are already operating and generated 1.57 MT in the first quarter.
There are already 36 captive and commercial mines operating, and it is probable that at least another 12 additional mines will begin operating this year. This will considerably help to meet the nation’s demand for coal, it was expected.
Project supporters also discussed the obstacles they are encountering and the efforts they have made. The coal ministry pledged to offer all assistance in resolving the problems.
