Indian benchmark indices extended their winning streak on September 8, marking the sixth consecutive session of gains, with the Nifty surpassing the 19,800 mark.
At the closing bell, the Sensex exhibited a noteworthy increase of 333.35 points, equivalent to a 0.50% rise, reaching 66,598.91. Simultaneously, the Nifty recorded a gain of 93 points, representing a 0.47% increase, closing at 19,820. In terms of market breadth, approximately 1959 shares advanced, 1611 shares declined, and 120 shares remained unchanged.
Key gainers on the Nifty included Coal India, NTPC, BPCL, Tata Motors, and Larsen and Toubro, while UPL, Eicher Motors, Apollo Hospitals, ITC, and UltraTech Cement were among the prominent losers.
In terms of sectors, capital goods, oil & gas, power, and realty exhibited strong performance, each witnessing gains of 1.5-2%. In contrast, the pharma index experienced a marginal decline of 0.3%.
The BSE midcap index saw a commendable rise of 0.9%, while the smallcap index also registered gains, albeit of a slightly lower magnitude, with a 0.4% increase.
