Benchmark indices concluded on a positive note on February 2, with Nifty hovering around 21,850.
At close, the Sensex marked a gain of 440.33 points, or 0.61%, reaching 72,085.63, while the Nifty showed an increase of 156.30 points, or 0.72%, closing at 21,853.80.
Market breadth reflected positive sentiment with 1759 shares advancing, 1469 shares declining, and 67 shares remaining unchanged.
Top gainers on the Nifty included BPCL, Power Grid Corporation, ONGC, Adani Ports, and NTPC, while Eicher Motors, Axis Bank, HDFC Life, HDFC Bank, and HUL were among the losers.
In the sectoral landscape, the oil & gas index observed a substantial 4% surge, while Information Technology, metal, realty, and power indices each recorded gains of 1-2%. In contrast, the bank index experienced a 0.5% decline.
The BSE Midcap index witnessed a rise of 0.8%, and the Smallcap index added 0.5%.
