The mid-sized SUV Elevate, manufactured in India, will be released by Japanese automaker Honda in the Japanese market early in 2024. This would be the first time a product made by the Japanese company’s wholly-owned subsidiary Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) is shipped to the heavily regulated Japanese market.
From its production plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan, HCIL is launching Elevate.
An HCIL representative stated in a statement that Elevate is scheduled for Spring 2024 launch in the Japanese market under the brand name WR-V, following its successful debut in India earlier this year.’
It further stated that the model will be produced in India and sent to Japan, a first for HCIL.
‘This strategic move is a strong reflection of manufacturing capabilities of India operations and also solidifies our vision of making the country a key export hub in Honda business,’ a spokesperson said.
According to the spokeswoman, the company’s plant in Tapukara is fully equipped to meet both domestic and export needs.
September of this year saw the domestic launch of Elevate by HCIL.
By 2030, the corporation plans to launch five SUV models into the domestic market, beginning with the model.
Within the next three years, the business also intends to release an Elevate battery-electric variant.
A 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a six-speed manual or seven-speed continuously variable gearbox (CVT) power the vehicle.
